Whether it's on a Triumph motorbike or in a Honda CRX open-top sports car he loves the way the wind ruffles his hair, lifts his ears, and dries his tongue.
Plus - he feels pretty hip in his shades.
Monty, of course, is a dog. He's one of dozens to be found modelling his sunglasses on .
Doggles first came to the attention of News staffers when Elaine Kriz, owner and operator of North Shore Optical, called to say she'd imported a bunch and had them for sale at her store.
"They're sunglasses for dogs," she said breezily, as though such an accessory is among the realm of normal dog needs. She gave us the Internet address so we could check them out.
"That's ridiculous," said my editor, while the rest of us huddled around the computer screen, admiring the models in their Doggles. "That's just taking things too far."
He has a cat named Tonka, and though he says the Balinese is the most dog-like cat he's ever met, he would never buy him a pair of Doggles.
But for dog-owners who are concerned about their pets' eye health, perhaps they are not quite so ridiculous after all.
"A lot of dogs hang their heads out the car window, or ride in the back of a pick-up. They get the wind in their eyes. The Doggles are great for wind and sun protection," said Kriz. She
added that they're also great protection for dogs who have eye diseases or have gone blind. She had read an article about the canine specs in an optical magazine and immediately ordered a
shipment.
But what about securing them to your four-legged friend's head? My own four-year-old black Lab (also called Monty) would put up with Doggles for about as long as I can get him to heel.
Those who know him will vouch for me when I say that's approximately a nano-second. Once he got them off he'd probably eat them.
"Some dogs are going to be more difficult than others, but usually once they start walking or get going they get distracted and forget about them."
